After the initial excitement and unguarded optimism, neural networks fell out of favor for more traditional approaches. Recently they came out of the interregnum due to amazing results that they achieved, especially in the area of image processing. The highly specialized Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) produced breathtakingly accurate classification of images thanks to the hyper parameterization of the network. While they produce amazing results, do they represent human-like intelligence? Can they be responsibly used for object classification in a matter of life and death?
